Join SmartAvatar as a Next.js Developer Intern to build modern web applications and AI-powered product experiences. Work with experienced engineers to develop responsive interfaces, integrate backend services, and deliver reliable features while gaining practical experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript, APIs, and production deployment workflows.
As a Next.js Developer Intern, you will contribute to the development and improvement of SmartAvatar’s web applications and AI-powered product experiences. Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will help turn product requirements and design concepts into responsive, accessible, and reliable web experiences.
You will gain hands-on experience with modern JavaScript and TypeScript development, Next.js, backend integration, authentication, databases, rendering strategies, and production deployment workflows. You will also have opportunities to explore how AI-powered functionality can be integrated into web applications while learning professional software engineering practices.

What you will own
- Web Application Development: Develop and improve web application features using Next.js, React, and TypeScript or JavaScript.
- UI Development: Build responsive, reusable, and accessible user interfaces.
- Design Implementation: Translate Figma designs and product requirements into functional web experiences.
- API & Backend Integration: Integrate REST APIs, backend services, databases, and authentication systems.
- Next.js Rendering & Routing: Work with server-side rendering, client-side interactions, routing, and appropriate Next.js rendering patterns.
- Debugging & Performance: Identify and fix bugs, improve application performance, and maintain code quality.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with designers and backend engineers to deliver complete features.
- Testing & Documentation: Participate in code reviews, testing, technical documentation, and team discussions.
- AI-powered Features: Explore opportunities to integrate AI functionality into web applications.
03 / Your experience
What you bring
The experience and capabilities we are looking for.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's programme in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of JavaScript and modern web development.
- Familiarity with React fundamentals, including components, props, state, and hooks.
- Basic understanding of Next.js and its application structure.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and API integration.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and fundamental programming concepts.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to collaborate with a team.
- Good communication skills in English.
Useful additional experience
These skills are welcome, but are not essential requirements.
- Experience with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, or component libraries.
- Familiarity with Server Components, Server Actions, or Next.js routing.
- Experience with Firebase, Supabase, or other backend services.
- Understanding of authentication, database operations, and API security.
- Familiarity with deployment platforms, environment variables, and CI/CD workflows.
- Personal projects, university projects, or GitHub repositories demonstrating web development skills.
